What are Microgreens ?

Microgreens are newly sprouted herbs or vegetables that are harvested after the development of the cotyledon leaves, or seed leaves, usually between 2-3 weeks from seeding. Microgreens can grow either in soil or hydroponically, but they need sunlight. It can grow from any herb or vegetable. The flavour will depend on the plant. They are been classified as functional or superfoods and are best eaten in raw form.

How Microgreens benefit your health ?

Microgreens are nutritional powerhouses and significant sources of chlorophyll and phytonutrients. As a nutrient chlorophyll has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Phytonutrients are substance in plants (Phyto means plants) that promotes health, prevent disease, cure illness. Microgreens boast greater amounts of phytonutrients because they are eaten raw. They have high content of vitamins and minerals, as well as other bioactive compounds. For example Broccoli microgreens are loaded with 50 times more of phytonutrients called sulforaphane (anticancer properties) than mature broccoli.
